Michael Brown
The most important elements of being a good leader are being authentic and genuine, and having a vision for where the organization needs to go, says Michael Brown, director of the Defense Innovation Unit. Brown came to DIU after serving as a Presidential Innovation Fellow and, before that, serving as the chief executive of Symantec. He’s also a former chairman and CEO of the Quantum Corp. Suffice it to say, he knows a thing or two about leadership. A good leader, he said, knows an organization’s mission inside and out and “what are the things that will take to successfully execute that mission and being able to communicate that — a big part of leadership is communication, so articulating that vision, helping everyone see what the agenda is and their role in it.”
