The TechAmerica Foundation has named Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), one of the featured speakers at FedTalks, the 2013 Legislator of the Year for the Senate.
The award recognizes exceptional leadership by one member of the Senate and one member of the House of Representatives, who have substantially assisted in the advancement of innovation policy, and for outstanding contributions to the U.S. technology sector, TechAmerica said.
In a released statement, Warner said he was honored to receive the recognition.
“The technology industry has been an important ally in working to promote STEM education and reform our broken immigration system,” he said. “Virginia has one of the largest concentrations of tech workers in the country, and I look forward to continuing to work with the TechAmerica Foundation to promote technology as a key driver of economic growth, innovation and American competitiveness.”
The TechAmerica Foundation 2013 Cyberstates report ranked Virginia fourth in the nation in technology employment. The commonwealth also has the highest concentration of technology workers.
Warner has served in the Senate since 2008, after being the governor of Virginia.
