Deputy Secretary of Defense Ash Carter is expected to stay at the Pentagon amidst rumors he could be President Obama’s choice to be the next Secretary of Energy, The Hill reports, citing Pentagon sources.
Current Secretary of Energy Steven Chu is widely expected to step down and Carter has been mentioned as a possible successor. Carter is a candidate, The Hill said, because of the energy secretary’s role in overseeing the nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile and nuclear labs.
