HHS hiring new deputy CIO
The Department of Health and Human Services is looking for a deputy to assist Chief Information Officer Frank Baitman.
The department’s Office of the CIO is looking to fill the void left by former Deputy CIO Rob Foster, who left the agency for a promotion to CIO of the Navy in June.
Catherine Peterson, the OCIO’s chief of staff, told FedScoop the senior executive service opening is a “backfill” with no new responsibilities. She said the new hire would work on deploying IT efficiencies, cloud technologies, cybersecurity tools and data-related projects.
According to a listing on USAJobs.gov, the new deputy CIO would be tasked with assisting and advising Baitman and other senior management “in recognizing where Information Technology (IT) can add value while transforming or supporting program operations,” specifically paying close attention to and adopting “current and emerging technologies, IT service delivery models (including shared services), and IT management best practices.”
In January, FedScoop talked to Baitman about his plans to consolidate HHS IT in 2015.
An ideal deputy CIO would also be innovative, the listing alluded. “The Deputy CIO works with other strategic leaders throughout the government to challenge conventional approaches and develop new methods and systems for delivering mission benefits,” it says.
The listing is open until Aug. 6 and comes with an annual salary of $121,956 to $183,300.
