FBI Names Assistant Director of IT Services Division

The Federal Bureau of Investigation named Jennifer Sanchez as the assistant director of the Information Technology Services Division.

Sanchez, formally the division’s deputy assistant director, will be responsible for the operations and maintenance of FBI IT systems worldwide.

Mrs. Sanchez joined the FBI in 1978 as a file clerk in the Identification Division, and she later became a fingerprint examiner. In 1980, she became a computer programmer for the Field Office Information Management System, the precursor to the Automated Case Support system.

She also worked for 17 years supporting the Violent Criminal Apprehension Program at Quantico, Virginia. In that role, Mrs. Sanchez assisted state and local law enforcement agencies in using the FBI’s applications to analyze violent crimes.

In 2003, Mrs. Sanchez was assigned as chief of the Headquarters Investigative Software Development Unit, where she was responsible for upgrading the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Management System to interface with the Department of Justice’s FISA program and developing the FBI’s Intelligence Information Report Dissemination System.

Mrs. Sanchez served as acting section chief, Systems Support Section from 2006-2008, where she managed six units responsible for maintaining software applications used throughout the FBI. She also served as the division’s audit liaison, managed the division’s budget, and provided oversight to the FBI’s Investigative Data Warehouse program. She was responsible for the post-migration support for the FBI payroll’s transition to the National Finance Center.

In May 2009, Mrs. Sanchez was named one of CIO Magazine’s “Ones to Watch” in information technology.

Mrs. Sanchez holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science, a Master of Science degree in information systems, and graduate certificates in software engineering and information engineering—all from George Mason University. She is also a certified project management professional.
