State Department’s Ambrose heading to VA
Greg Ambrose, the director of consular systems and technology at the State Department, has accepted a new position as deputy chief information officer for product development at the Department of Veterans Affairs, according to an email from VA CIO Stephen Warren obtained by FedScoop.
Ambrose, a career federal IT official with experience at the departments of Homeland Security and Defense, will join VA in late June, according to Warren. Ambrose fills the post left vacant when Lorraine Landfried resigned last July. Landfried was replaced on an acting basis by Dave Peters, who left VA last month to become chief of the Application Services Division at the Census Bureau.

“Greg is known throughout the federal government for his depth of experience in program management, information technology development, systems engineering, and requirements and scope management, but also his energetic leadership, innovative thinking, and strategic vision,” Warren said in an email to VA staff.
“Through his service at the State Department, Department of Homeland Security, and Department of Defense, Greg has extensive experience navigating complex business and technological systems, and much of his work at the State Department focused on customer-facing systems and applications,” Warren said. “As myVA better informs our work with the Veteran, Greg’s experience leading efforts for customer-centered development will be critical in helping us meet those needs.”
Ambrose is credited with helping to lead the State Department’s response last July to a major disruption in the databases that power the department’s visa and passport processing.
