Data skills catalog, ethics framework both arrive

The General Services Administration has finalized two major support documents under the Federal Data Strategy. The new data skills catalog and ethics framework will assist agencies in developing data management competencies and officials in making ethical decisions in line with the goals of the strategy. Publishing both documents fulfills Actions 13 and 14 of the Federal Data Strategy 2020 Action Plan, after months of work by governments data experts. Dave Nyczepir has more.

HHS disaster recovery arm seeks cloud hosting information

The Department of Health and Human Services is interested in moving its disaster recovery arm into the cloud. HHS's Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response issued a request for information on its planned procurement, migration and operationalization of leading commercial solutions. The objective is to obtain "a secure, flexible, efficient, and cost-effective, commercial cloud service offering that enables scaling of infrastructure, application resources, IT capabilities or services to meet evolving application and user demand,” reads the RFI. Congress wants to establish White House national cyber director

President Donald Trump eliminated the role of a national cybersecurity director during his office. But just in time for a Biden administration, Congress wants to bring that position back. Under the proposal, the director would advise the president on cybersecurity and coordinate the federal government’s related work. And some supporters say the proposal would improve upon the role Trump eliminated by making it Senate-confirmed and housing it outside of, rather than under, the National Security Council.
