A speed boost at Tyndall

The Air Force has called upon AT&T to help it build a "smart base of the future" at Tyndall Air Force Base, which was devastated by 2018's Category 5 Hurricane Michael. As part of this, the Florida Panhandle facility will get 5G service sometime in early 2020 under a contract the service awarded it in September. AT&T will also deliver modernized commercial IT capabilities, to include “mobility, cloud access, unified communications, voice, broadband, Wi-Fi expansion and an array of connected devices,” and manage network operations, such as compute, storage and “edge capabilities,” AT&T said. Billy Mitchell has more.

Several VA leaders testified Wednesday on the final steps the department is taking before going live at two medical facilities in the Pacific Northwest next March and what could halt an on-time launch. One thing in specific came up during the hearing that could cause a delay: "“If anything is going to impact patient safety, that is a no-go,” VA Deputy Secretary James Byrne said in a House Veterans’ Affairs Committee hearing. “That rules over everything.” More on VA's efforts before launch day.
