First small business cleared under EIS contract

Another company has earned an ATO to do business on the government’s flagship telecommunications modernization contract. MicroTech is the first small business to complete business support system testing and receive a three-year authority to operate under the GSA-operated $50 billion EIS contract, which allows agencies to update their information technology and telecom infrastructure. MicroTech is now one of seven companies to which agencies can issue task orders under the next-gen telecom contract — and three more should be authorized soon. Dave Nyczepir has more on the new ATO.

GSA issues RFI to build federal buying guide on human-centered design

Speaking of GSA, the agency wants to develop a special federal buying guide for human-centered design services. The agency issued an RFI on Monday soliciting feedback from industry partners to “understand industry capabilities related to providing human-centered design (HCD) and customer experience (CX) services for the Federal Government.” GSA will use the responses to that RFI to issue a report and build its guide. “We are looking forward to learning more about the capabilities that industry partners can offer agency programs as they accelerate customer-centered experiences across the federal government,” GSA acting Chief Customer Officer Matt Ford said in a statement. Federal prisons shopping for EHR system

The federal prison system is looking to upgrade the technology it uses to keep track of prisoner health information. The Federal Bureau of Prisons issued a request for information Wednesday on systems that can assist with clinical decision-making, nursing care center documentation, allied health services, patient accounting and management and ambulatory care. This isn't your average hospital environment, however, the bureau warns — "construction materials (such as concrete and rebar) may limit deployment options," according to the RFI. Is an AWS JEDI protest coming?

The surprise of the Department of Defense's choice of Microsoft over Amazon Web Services for its $10 billion JEDI contract has still not worn off. “We brought our best efforts to the rigorous JEDI evaluation process and appreciate that DOD has chosen Microsoft,” Toni Townes-Whitley, president of U.S. regulated industries for Microsoft, said in a statement. “We are proud that we are an integral partner in DOD’s overall mission cloud strategy.” Now, the entire federal IT community eagerly awaits the possibility of an AWS protest, which would have to come within 10 days of a debriefing.
