Could your tech help modernize the U.S. census?

It's no secret the Census Bureau has struggled to modernize some of its tech ahead of the 2020 census, which is being hailed as the agency's most technologically advanced count to date. The bureau is on the hunt now for commercially available technology products that might help it update some of its business practices, like questionnaire design or internet data collection. It issued an RFI this week seeking information on "secure solutions/applications and/or COTS products" for survey design, case management and more. Tajha Chappellet-Lanier has more on the RFI.

Stopgap spending threatens Army’s timely adoption of cloud, modernization

The Army is embarking on the most transformational modernization of its systems and networks in decades, according to its leadership. But budget woes are beginning to complicate things, Secretary Ryan McCarthy said this week. Flat appropriations and a reliance on continuing resolutions have brought the Army's plans to go all-in on cloud and develop new data capabilities to a standstill, McCarthy said. "Without a budget, it’s a new-start program, so it will sit and will wait," he said. Billy Mitchell has the story.

Medicare data project gains momentum as CMS continues its push for interoperability

CMS's Data at the Point of Care pilot is off to a booming start. Though the system won't be ready until November, about 570 organizations representing nearly 80,000 health care providers have signed up to participate in the White House-backed program to improve information sharing of claims data on Medicare beneficiaries, officials said.
