Navy extends NGEN again for $657M

As the world awaits the award of the Navy's NGEN-R contracts, its predecessor NGEN is hanging around for another few months at least. The Navy issued a $657 million extension to contract-holder Perspecta that will tack on four-to-seven months on the expiring hardware and IT services mega-contract. It marks the second time now the contract's end has been pushed back, dolling out an additional total of $1.4 billion in potential work to Perspecta. Billy Mitchell explains the extension.

After protest, open source software company Chef will let ICE contract expire

Another government IT contractor will sever ties with an agency after protests because of the ethical implications of supporting the agency's mission. Chef, a Washington, D.C.-based open source software company, said it will let contracts with ICE and CBP expire, citing the recent family separation policy at the nation’s southern border as "policies that violate basic human rights." The company is committed to donating money “equivalent to our 2019 revenues from these two contracts” to charities that support people impacted by family separation and detention," its CEO said.
