OMB's interim Huawei guidance

The Office of Management and Budget is tweaking its plans for implementing a ban on federal contractors using Huawei and other technologies developed in China. OMB this week issued interim guidance on the ban, which will go into effect Aug. 13 as required by the fiscal 2019 National Defense Authorization Act. In the guidance, the agency says it now won't require full-scale audits of federal contractors' networks in the implementation of the ban. One executive for a federal contractor calls the new rule a "softer" approach, given that companies won't have to do full internal or third-party assessments for the banned tech. Jackson Barnett has the story.

Chief Information Officer Jamie Holcombe is allowing his team members to serve on product teams of their choosing after introducing a new product catalog and consolidating the number of IT projects underway from more than 150 to just 30 across four product lines: patents, trademarks, enterprise and infrastructure. Navy's new supply chain risk assessment tool

The Navy recently acquired a new supply chain risk assessment tool from KSM Consulting for quicker analysis of its microelectronics supply chain. The new tool acquired by Naval Surface Warfare Center-Crane Division — the Automated Microelectronics Analysis & Reporting Optimization (AMARO) solution — uses natural language processing to gather public and private information on companies in the microelectronic supply chain and extract important text. This allows analysts to get straight to the point determining a company's supply chain trustworthiness. Jackson has more on the new tool.
