VA hits EHR delay

The Department of Veterans Affairs will not launch its modernized electronic health record (EHR) in late March as expected. The $16 billion project will have an updated timeline in the coming weeks, a VA spokeswoman said. The decision to delay the go-live date stems from a need for more training at the initial Spokane, Washington, medical facility, that was set to go online March 28. Jackson Barnett has more on the development.

The Army's battle against data poisoning

As the Army looks to develop data-dependent artificial intelligence and facial recognition applications, it's working to prevent so-called data poisoning. To try to safeguard facial recognition databases from backdoor attacks in which adversaries subtly alter data, the Army is funding research to build defensive software to mine through its databases. MaryAnne Fields, program manager for intelligent systems at the Army Research Office, spoke with FedScoop about the project. Jackson has this one too.

Whittaker told FedScoop he’s looking forward to building on the “foundation” that Colter built. Tajha Chappellet-Lanier has the scoop.

New updates in the JEDI saga

As part of its bid protest of the Pentagon's JEDI contract, Amazon has asked the court for depositions of President Donald Trump, Defense Secretary Mark Esper and former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, among others. The cloud computing company claims there are gaps in the discovery information provided by the Department of Defense about its evaluation of JEDI bids and the eventual award to Microsoft. To get that information it feels is missing, it wants to depose Trump, Esper and Mattis. The Pentagon told FedScoop it “strongly opposes the request.” Then Tuesday, a pair of nonprofit government ethics watchdogs filed amicus briefs in support of AWS's new requests for supplemental evidence. Billy Mitchell has the news.

Giving network defenders an edge with AI- and ML-embedded platforms

Modern unified technology platforms, embedded with artificial intelligence and machine learning technology, give federal agencies a clearer common operating picture that improves network security. By consolidating applications and pulling together information from disparate systems into a single, standardized view, IT can shift the balance in the network defenders’ favor. Listen to the interview.
