Source: Department of LaborThe Department of Labor has been rolling out an Enforcement Database that makes available curated and current data from multiple enforcement agencies, in most cases for the first time, said department Chief Technology Officer Hamid Ouyachi.
The Enforcement Database is DOL’s open government flagship initiative and leverages open data, open source, analytics and visualization to socialize DOL worker protection agencies data. By cataloguing, correlating, exposing and presenting data into visualizations, the site provides the public and interested communities with information and tools to promote worker safety.
The Enforcement Database is an open source platform, integrated with DOL’s application programming interface, supports DOL’s mobile application development challenges and competitions, spurring use of DOL’s enforcement data. An example is DOL’s informACTION App Challenge, where the First Prize application: “Eat, Shop, Sleep” was a ‘mashup’ of Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Wage and Hour compliance data and Yelp reviews.
