Google detects 4,000 state-sponsored attacks every month

Google is notifying 4,000 customers every month that they’re being attacked by sophisticated hackers probably working for a nation-state, a senior executive of the internet giant said.

Speaking Monday at Fortune Magazine’s Brainstorm Tech conference in Aspen, Colorado, Google Senior Vice President Diane Greene dropped the number while talking up the company’s record on security.

Reuters news agency, which reported the remarks, didn’t include any direct quotes from Greene in the story and Google didn’t immediately respond for a request for more details.

Google began alerting users to possible state-sponsored cyberattacks in 2012 but has previously given much vaguer and broader figures about the scale of the issue.
