Gen. Keith Alexander will receive TechAmerica’s Government Technology Executive of the Year award for his work protecting the country’s cyberspace.
Alexander — commander of the U.S. Cyber Command, director of the National Security Agency, and chief of the Central Security Service — oversees and defends the Defense Department’s computer networks.
“[Alexander] has contributed a great deal to advancing the United States’ national security by prioritizing protecting cyberspace,” Shawn Osborne, chairman of TechAmerica Foundation, said in a statement. TechAmerica gives its Government Executive of the Year award to federal employees best using technology to advance service to the public.
Focusing on cybersecurity strengthens all government departments, Alexander said in a statement. “Cyber threats cut across networks, borders and sectors, and leaders in government and industry must work together to help protect the nation’s critical infrastructure and information,” he said.
Prior to his current position, Alexander served as deputy chief of staff in the headquarters of the Department of the Army. He has also been commanding general of the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command at Fort Belvoir and director of intelligence at United States Central Command.
Alexander will receive his award at the 2013 Technology and Government dinner June 20 in Washington, D.C.
